The L298N 4WD Motor Driver, compatible with both 3.3V and 5V microcontrollers like Arduino and STM32, has proven to be an incredibly versatile and robust solution for my DC motor control needs. This board is a staple for anyone looking to drive multiple motors with varying current requirements. The most appealing aspect of this L298N board is its ability to handle four independent DC motors or two stepper motors. For my 4WD robot chassis, this is a perfect fit, simplifying the wiring and control logic significantly compared to using multiple single-channel drivers. The L298N chip itself is a workhorse, capable of delivering a decent amount of current (up to 2A per channel peak, 1A continuous) which is more than sufficient for the small to medium-sized DC motors I typically use in my projects. The board’s compatibility with both 3.3V and 5V logic is a huge plus. This means I can seamlessly integrate it with a wide range of microcontrollers, whether I’m using a 5V Arduino Uno or a 3.3V ESP32 or STM32 board, without needing external level shifters.
